Martha’s Singing Bird :::: Tom Petty night
I’m excited to be part of some great shows in the next couple of weeks…
On Saturday June 4th, many of my Toronto Island neighbours will be gathering to celebrate the 21st birthday of local theatre troupe Shadowland Theatre. To mark the occasion, a multi-generational group of Shadowland’s youth program alumni (including me!) will be putting on a show in the historic Ward’s Island Clubhouse. The evening will start with a parade from the ferry docks, and I will cap the night off with a short solo set of music. In the throwback spirit of the evening, I’ll be pulling some old songs out of the suitcase. Details are here on facebook.
Then on June 5th, my sister Martha will be releasing her beautiful new album My Singing Bird at St. Andrew-by-the-Lake church near Centre Island. The album was recorded at St. Andrew-by-the-Lake, and is a collection of a capella celtic songs. This is Martha’s first solo album and we are all so proud of this beautiful thing she has made! Various kith&kin members, and also our friends GREX will be joining us for the concert. Details here. You can stream the album at the bottom of this post.
I’ve also joined a great cast of musicians set to pay tribute to Tom Petty at Hugh’s Room on June 17th. The show is the brainchild of A Man Called Wrycraft — his shows are always a really great time! I recorded a version of the Petty tune Only A Broken Heart last year as part of the Latent Recordings Under Cover series – you can listen to it here. All the details for the Hugh’s Room show are here.
